Camper Mod-Part 1

Before we met my husband was given a 1998 Coleman Fleetwood Bayside.  It had some damage to the canvas (mice) and the lid for the front hatch was in rough shape.  He spent some time and money to fix a couple of things; patch the canvas, repair the front hatch lid, and got a new seal but beyond that he didn't do too much. And never took it camping!!

I grew up camping and shortly after my parents decided to sell their boat they decide to buy a motor coach and take up camping again. So when he met me there was no question, we were going to be using that pop up. Let's just say our first trip was an epic FAIL!!!  Right before we left we needed to put one last thing inside, so he supposedly unlatches everything and starts to crank.  Then you hear a great big pop, bang, boom!!  "What was that?"  "Ummm I think we broke a cable. Why don't you go order a pizza and we will come up with another plan."  Needless to say we packed up the tent and left the next morning.

So if you are counting that was the first major improvement we made to the camper, one I almost forgot about. :-)  After that we used the camper several more times for weekend trips to the beach and for our big family reunions in the summer.  It got the name tasamhall because it is so big!  We took several friends camping and even let the neighbors borrow it for a weeks vacation in South Carolina where they had 9 people sleeping in it.  It wasn't until a trip home from the beach that we realized we had some major problems that needed to be addressed.

Fast forward to September 2016...

Coming home on 50 my now husband notices something flapping in the wind on the camper.  Sure enough it is the ABS roof that Coleman's are known for.  First thing I do is look up the closets Walmart or Lowes.  We needed a quick fix, Walmart it was! Where we picked up duct tape, he was even thoughtful enough to get white so that the tape wouldn't be an eye sore the rest of the way home.  After taping the roof so it wouldn't move anymore I was on my phone researching fixes.  This is when I came across the Pop Up Princess and the Pop Up Portal.  OMG!!!  the possibilities were endless.  All the way home I was saving things to Pinterest and ewwing and ahhing over different post.  My husband was so jealous, I can't tell you how many times he told me I had to stop.  I didn't listen. lol
